The World is my Bee with a Macro Lens!

Photography - Macro bee   I was happily snapping away the other evening, experimenting with both my macro lens and a nifty flash unit that allows me to change the intensity of the light.  The bees were doing their work nearby, but I was moving so slowly I thought I wouldn’t disturb them.  This guy, however, wanted at the false indigo I was shooting and he didn’t mind the flashing nor the lens really close to him!  So I got to shoot him and observe him work.  He appeared to be sucking nectar and loading up his legs with pollen.

Photography - Macro chive flower

This is the flower of a chive plant.  I discovered that the tips of the petals go in all kinds of lovely directions almost suggestive of underwater movement.  Also I never noticed before that they have darker purple stripes on the petals.

Photography - Macro iris bud

Lastly I bring you the bud of an iris flower.  Its surface is so complex, shimmering as it is just about to open and reveal what all those lines and colors will be.  I love to see buds of things close up.  They are often packages with semi-revealing wrapping like this.
