Shoe RetreadsHere on Father’s Day I have to brag about and thank God for my wonderful dad.  He can literally fix anything and not only that, he actually enjoys fixing things.

I have these Teva sandals which are somewhere around 15 years old and for which I distinctly remember smarting at the parting of myself and $65 that long ago.  They have been nothing but comfortable and durable, really amazing shoes.  Happy to be worn anywhere, wet, dry, muddy, with socks or without.  Always looking sporty and casual, my favorite look.  But alas, I noticed the soles were wearing out; actual holes under the balls of my feet and the heel was on quite a worn angle.  Never fear!  My pa is here to save the sandals!  He muscled some strips of tire off the big hunk he had, used shoe goop to stick them on and returned them to me a couple days later issuing the title of this post along with the shoes.

Wow, they are totally fixed and now I won’t have to buy new ones.  What a great use for old tires and what a great way to keep something working instead of discarding it.  You want to save money and the earth?  Take some lessons from my incredible pa:  save stuff for their potential raw materials, and fix things!  Thanks Pa, you’re the best!
