Amazon, NHL Partner Flagship Hockey Highlights Series ‘Coast to Coast’

Amazon and the National Hockey League are partnering on a new series, NHL Coast to Coast, to feature highlights and analysis from league games and airing Thursday nights in Canada.

The NHL-produced series follows plans by Prime Video to stream a live league game Sunday nights for the 2024/25 season.

“NHL Coast To Coast will provide fans with a comprehensive look at the latest key moments in games, as-they-happen highlights, interviews and analysis from the world of hockey, featuring top players, coaches and commentators,” Magda Grace, head of Prime Video, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement on Thursday.

The deal for NHL Coast to Coast north of the border promises ripple effects on Canadian TV similar to Amazon’s $1 billion per year deal to offer Thursday Night Football stateside similarly changing TV viewing habits as pro sports increasingly embraces streaming audiences. Just as live sports long underpinned cable TV packages, programming from the NHL and other major sports leagues is increasingly playing a key role in allowing major streamers to acquire and retain subscribers and ad-tier audiences.

“NHL Coast To Coast is yet another example of Amazon’s extraordinary investment in hockey programming and commitment to delivering an enhanced viewing experience for hockey fans,” NHL senior executive vp and chief content officer Steve Mayer said in his own statement.
