There aren’t many musicians more closely associated with the American car than Bob Seger, but even he wasn’t immune to the pull of a European exotic.

A 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS that belonged to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. The Detroit-born musician didn’t just drive the car a couple of times, either; it was part of his collection for years.

The 246’s predecessor, the 206, was introduced in 1967 as Ferrari’s answer to the popular Porsche 911. It wasn’t technically a Prancing Horse, though, and was instead sold under the Dino brand, which was named for the late son of company founder Enzo Ferrari. That wasn’t all that differentiated it from the rest of the automaker’s stable. It was also powered by a V-6 instead of a V-12, though the 2.0-liter mill still made a respectable 176 hp. Customers wanted more power, though, so the 246 was released in 1969. That version of the car maintained the curvaceous look of the first Dino but replaced its engine with a larger 2.4-liter six-cylinder that made just shy of 190 horses.

It was the second version of the car that caught Seger’s eye during the mid-’70s. It was at this point that he’d reached genuine rock star status, thanks to his work with the Silver Bullet Band (though some of his biggest hits, like “Old Time Rock and Roll” and Chevrolet-associated “Like a Rock,” were still a ways off). Seger’s Dino, chassis no. 0600, is a 246 GTS, a semi-convertible with a removable roof panel. It was one of seven that left the factory in Verde Scuro but was re-painted in Rosso Chiaro after the rocker sold the car in the 1980s. The interior, meanwhile, is still done up in beige leather and features a Borletti air conditioner, a Becker radio, and power windows.

The car is powered by a mid-mounted 2.4-liter V-6. Its equipped with a trio of Weber carburetors and makes 189 hp and 166 ft lbs of torque, enough to push the car to a top speed of 146 mph. Seger’s old Dino has gotten some use over the years and has 65,000 miles on the odometer. It has been well maintained over the years and was restored earlier this decade in the U.K., so it should be in great shape.
