Sofía Vergara’s summer is off to a sizzling start. In addition to judging a new season of America’s Got Talent (her fifth at the judges table) and launching a new Colombian coffee line, the actress and entrepreneur has debuted a new swimwear capsule for Walmart, making it the latest addition to her successful collection with the retailer.

Vergara celebrated the launch of her swimwear line last month with a sunset party in Beverly Hills that brought out influencers and models, along with friends and press. In addition to hearing from Vergara and the Walmart fashion team — who also collaborate on Sofía Vergara denim, separates, activewear, intimates and accessories — the event featured a runway show that showcased the new swimwear pieces, which Vergara described as both “very comfortable” and “flattering on everyone.”

Vergara turned heads at the party in a $17 ruched, one-shoulder dress from Walmart, that the Griselda star said she was originally saving for a summer trip to Italy, until plans got derailed by a recent knee surgery. “If you see me walking weird, it’s not that I’m drunk,” she joked to the crowd at the golden hour soiree.

Available now at, the Sofía by Sofía Vegara Swimwear Collection launches with bikini tops, bottoms, one-piece suits and coverups, all in a tropical palette inspired by her travels and time spent in Miami. The generous sizing, meantime, runs from XS to 2X, with offerings for larger bust sizes as well.

THR caught up with Vergara after the event to talk about the swimwear launch, the continued expansion of her brand, and why she really is a real-life Walmart fan.

What inspired the designs behind the new swimwear collection?

I grew up on the Caribbean coast and lived for years in Miami — we basically lived in swimwear, and it’s summer year-round [there], so we were always in need of new, cute pieces! So I was inspired by that, and by the vibrant colors of Colombia and the Caribbean. 

Some people might be surprised to see you working with Walmart, but you say this has been an important partnership for you. Why?

It’s important for me to reach my audience, and Walmart has always been the perfect partner in that regard, because I want as many people as possible to enjoy my products. And I do go to Walmart! Not so much in Los Angeles, because there isn’t really one near me, but whenever I’m in Florida or maybe shooting on location, it’s the only place we go for everything. 


You have coffee, clothing, swimwear… Why is it important for you to expand your brand beyond acting? 

It’s important for me to share these things with my fans because I want them to experience the same quality and joy that I do. These are all items I personally use or wear, and I love the idea of sharing this part of my life with my fan base. It gives me such joy to continue to create a connection and letting my fans in on my favorite finds — I want them to feel confident and happy with their purchases, just like I do! 

You get offered so many partnerships and deals — what does it take for you to say yes to something?

It has to be authentic to me and something I genuinely love — I’m not just putting my face on a poster. This is truly a partnership and a brand that we have been building for years and we want to continue to grow it.
