Cenizaro Launches New Philanthropic Initiative

With a collection of stunning properties scattered across some of the world’s most desirable locations from Mauritius to Zanzibar, Cenizaro certainly knows a thing or two about luxury vacations. Now, the hospitality giant is giving guests the opportunity to give back during their stay with the launch of its philanthropic program, A Dollar-A-Day.

Building on its existing Cenizaro Cares initiative, the program has been created to enhance the welfare of the local communities in the areas surrounding each resort. While guests are encouraged to donate one dollar per day of their stay, they can also opt to increase the total donation amount on their bill at check out.

All donations are matched dollar-for-dollar by Cenizaro and the money is given to a carefully chosen local charity. For example, those visiting La Maison Arabe in Marrakech can donate to the Dar Bouidar Children’s village which gives abandoned children a safe home, community and education in the city, while funds raised by guests at The Residence Maldives are given to the local hospital to upgrade its operating theatre and to the local school to build a new library.

“We want to be more than a window for our guests to view the natural beauty of their surroundings,” says Alexys Tijia, director of corporate responsibility at Cenizaro. “We want to offer travelers of all ages an immersive, enriching opportunity to experience the real local biodiversity of each of our properties, the full flavors of the land and truly connect with the communities in which our properties are set.

“As international travel resumes, we’re conscious that travelers’ mindsets have changed over the last two years, with the majority of guests now wanting to really make a positive impact on the destinations they’re visiting. Through the launch of the new Dollar-A-Day program, we hope to make this possible.”

Of course, the work doesn’t stop there. The brand has also recently launched the Earth Basket program to minimize the food waste produced across its portfolio of properties, creating on-site kitchen gardens at each resort to showcase local produce, converting leftovers into compost, and giving guests the chance to take culinary masterclasses with the talented resident chefs.

These programs are accompanied by the luxury brand’s wider initiatives already in place to minimize each property’s impact on the environment. At the Residence Maldives, for example, the hotel has installed solar panels to produce its own electricity, created a rain harvesting system, water recycling plant, and removed all plastic water bottles.

The resort is also part of the Protect Maldives Seagrass program working with the Blue Marine Foundation and Maldives Underwater Initiative to preserve the archipelago’s underwater seagrass meadows on which its delicate marine ecosystem relies to thrive.
