Florence Pugh Makes A Case For The Return Of The Peplum
From her very first red carpet moments to now, Florence Pugh has never been afraid to push boundaries when it comes to her fashion choices. So naturally, while everyone was focused on the Grammy’s taking place in Los Angeles, the actress brought the same level of red carpet energy to the UK for the 43rd annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards on Sunday night.
Pugh, who often opts for bright, colourful and voluminous pieces — and who loves a two-piece moment — put all of her favourite things together in her latest look, wearing a bright red design from Robert Wun’s spring 2023 couture collection. Simultaneously signalling the return of the 2010’s-era peplum top while she was at it.
Pugh, who was nominated for Best British/Irish Actress for her role in The Wonder, wore a strapless, corseted top, which featured fanned-out pleats, synonymous with the mid-2010s and designers creating the pieces at the time, such as Jil Sander and Lanvin. The piece, which featured lace-up detailing in the back, was complemented by a matching floor-length skirt in a mermaid silhouette.
But Pugh didn’t stop there: the 27-year-old topped off her look with a red-brimmed cowboy hat with a sweeping veil, which she cheekily played with in photos while posing on the red carpet:

In other images, Pugh briefly takes her hat off to show her short blonde hair curled elegantly. She accessorised with simple gold hoops, layered necklaces, and her signature septum ring, kept her beauty look simple with rosy cheeks and dark pink lips.
Pugh isn’t the first to dabble in the controversial peplum silhouette of late. Last week, Reese Witherspoon wore an aqua blue midi dress with a pleated peplum, and last year her Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman wore an Armani Privé gown with an exaggerated ruffle at the waist to the 2022 Academy Awards.
Peplums and couture cowboy moments aside, Pugh was joined at the awards by Paul Mescal, who recently received his first Oscars nomination for his role in Aftersun. Name a cuter, more talented, duo, we’ll wait:
