Alien 4

Look who’s turned up again for his usual Friday appearance.  Charlie and Hudson easily dismissed him so now he’s working on me.  Nice try, Mr. Alien, I have work to do!  You are going to have to entertain yourself today.

Alien Mind Control Efforts

Alien 3

Well, he can try, but the alien is barking up the wrong tree.   Charlie might look like he is taking in the hypnotic mind-control mantras of the alien, but Charlie has a mind of his own!

After this session, Charlie went off on his merry way completely ignoring the instructions given.  I have known Charlie for 7 years now and I have tried all manner of mind control on his little peanut brain.  I could have told the alien to give up the cause.  Charlie is his own man.

The Alien Talks to Hudson

The Alien Talks to HudsonHere is Hudson just wanting to escape from the world in his kennel.  Breakfast should be coming any minute and it’s a nice place to hunker down and wait.

But here comes that pesky Alien!  He’s confused about who is in charge here.  The humans serve food to the dogs and pick up their waste.  The alien has gone straight to the supreme leader here!

Hudson is having none of it.  He refuses to talk at least until he’s had his breakfast.

An Alien in the Garden!

Alien 2

This concrete dog in the garden is not so sure about the alien’s laying of hands.  My thrift store alien thought he would try some mind control here but he’s not too smart.  It just looks like a dog, but it is solid concrete.  Hmmm…these humans are complicated.

Fun with Aliens

Alien 1

Just a little goofy alien for today’s post.  I found him at a thrift store and I just had to have him.  Every time someone makes an appointment with me (or Bill) and doesn’t show up for it I say, “Another alien abduction, apparently.”  So when I found this guy he had to come home with me.  He might make regular appearances here on my blog.  Today he is checking out the garden from atop a world-like bowling ball on a pillar.  I think he secretly wants to take over the world, but he is actually too small (unless he calls on a lot of friends.)

Terrarium Add-Ins

Posted on February 25, 2013. Filed under: Plants | Tags: , , , , , |

After getting a container, choosing plants that will like the container, setting up the layers of drainage material in the bottom, appropriate soil for the plants and possibly some top dressing like stone or sand, it’s fun to consider decorative add-ins.  These can be an accent to the plants or they can tell a story in which the plants play a supporting role.  The people at http://twigterrariums.com are brilliant at creating little scenes with tiny people doing different things, check it out!

So far I have preferred to just accent my plants with decorative items, but I think this is mostly due to the fact that I haven’t come across a great resource for tiny people!  Here are some things I’ve recently collected.

016          Terrariums - Aliens

Some of these items are larger, like the owl with the intense glass eyes the marble mushroom, and the real animal skull I found in the woods.  They will need a larger terrarium.  Some are smaller like the little aliens ($0.10 for all at a rummage sale!)  I had to glue them on corks because they wouldn’t stand.  I’ll just sink the corks into the ground and no one will know I had to do that.  I’ve also got shells and a stack of small beach stones.  The jar has deer moss in it.  This is natural moss that has been preserved so it is technically dead, but so full of bright green color you’d never know.  Tucking a little piece of this in really jazzes it up.

When I visit one of my usual haunts (Goodwill, St. Vinnie’s or rummage sales) I’m always on the lookout for certain categories of things.  Tiny terrarium add-ins are one of those.  Have you found anything really interesting to put into your terrariums?
