Tyler, the Creator Cancels Gigs at Lollapalooza, Outer Lands

Tyler, the Creator has canceled his headlining appearances at this year’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago and Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, the artist announced.

The rapper, who most recently released a deluxe version of his 2023 album Call Me If You Get Lost, did not explain why he was canceling his performances at two of the summer’s major festivals. Outside Lands cites “personal reasons” for the canceled performance by the “Earfquake” rapper-producer.

“i hate saying this but i have to cancel lollapalooza and outside lands,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “i made a commitment that i can no longer keep, and that bums me out knowing how excited folks were. that is not sexy at all. please please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person. Love.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to his representation for further explaination — and for the seemingly coded word choice in his social media post. It’s unclear if the “please, please” in the rapper’s announcement is related to Carpenter, as it’s very close to the title of her recent hit single.

Lollapalooza’s producers tweeted that Megan Thee Stallion will be swapped in the headlining slot for Tyler on Thursday: “Hot girl summer in Chicago. Unfortunately, Tyler, the Creator will not be able to perform this year. See @theestallion headline Lolla on Thursday, August 1st!,” they wrote.

Outside Lands posted a new lineup on its website, with singer Sabrina Carpenter as the replacement headliner. This will be Carpenter’s first major North American festival headline billing, the festival said in a statement sent to THR. The gig comes ahead of her new album, set for release on August 23 and follows the success of the single “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please” single, which recently debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tyler, the Creator was one of several headliners at the Coachella festival in Indio, California in April and is set to headline the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.
