Westfalia’s New Wave SRT Camper Van is Compact and Versatile

Westfalia doesn’t think campers will mind trading size for convenience.
The legendary camping company has just unveiled its latest U.S. model, the Wave SRT. The new RV is the smallest member of the brand’s current lineup and offers maneuverability that its bigger siblings lack.
The SRT is a shorter version of the camper van that helped launch Westfalia’s U.S. comeback last year following a two-decade absence. The vehicle is based, yet again, on the 3.6-liter V-6-powered Ram Promaster and stretches just over 19.5 feet bumper-to-bumper. That makes it 14 inches shorter than the company’s other two models, the Wave Pop-Up and Wave Skylight, though the trio share the same 13.25 feet wheelbase. The RV’s relatively compact footprint makes it easier to drive in a variety of environments, including tight city streets, narrow trails, or crowded parking lots.

We know what you’re wondering: does this added convenience come at the cost of comfort or capability? The answer would appear to be no. The new model still has all the features campers have come to expect from Westfalia and can sleep up to four. The brand has utilized a European layout to make sure the minimalist cabin still has room for a dinette that converts into a mattress, a small kitchenette, a wet bathroom with a cassette shower and toilet, and a fixed sleeping area. Other creature comforts include a giant skylight, a rooftop air conditioner and a water heater. The van also comes equipped with Westfalia’s Firefly Integration control system to keep everything running smoothly.
There are some tradeoffs, of course. The smaller interior leaves less room for storing gear and other necessities. The SRT features 15 cubic feet of storage room compared to the 30 cubic feet found in the Pop-Up and Skylight. If you’re willing to deal with a little more visible clutter this won’t be that big of a deal. The bathroom also sounds a little cramped, which explains why the vehicle comes with a standard outdoor shower hookup.
