A Rare 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec N1 Is Currently Up for Auction

One of the rarest variants of the most revered modern-day Nissan is about to change hands.

A 1999 Skyline GT-R V-Spec N1 is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. Any example of the 10th-generation R34 is coveted, but especially this version, of which less than 40 built.

If you’re the kind of auto enthusiast who grew up playing the early Gran Turismo games, chances are you have a special place in your heart Skyline GT-R. “Godzilla,” as it’s sometimes known, may not look all that intimidating, but it’s one of the best sports cars to ever come out of the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), more than capable of holding its own on the track and street. The fact that the vehicle was never released here—and has only recently started to become eligible for import under the “Show or Display” exemption—has only added to its mystique. There just aren’t that many other high-performance vehicle from the last 30 years that are almost impossible to find in the U.S.

This Skyline GT-R V-Spec N1 is the 19th of what is believed to be just 38 that were built. It rolled off the line in February of 1999. The two-door is finished in a brilliant coat of white like every other V-Spec N1 and rides on 18-inch six-spoke GT-R wheels. The variant lacks a rear fog light and window wiper but does have xenon headlights up front and an adjustable rear wing in the back. The GT-R-branded steering wheel is on the right side of the cabin, which is covered in grey cloth upholstery with suede inserts and red contrast stitching.

Under the hood, lurks the R34’s 2.6-liter inline-six. The mill is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that routes its 246 hp to all four wheels, though the general consensus is the car is much more potent than that. Like other V-Spec models, this example has a limited-slip differential, a system that splits torque between the individual wheels, and a stiffer suspension than that found on the other Skyline GT-Rs. The example, which arrived in the U.S. earlier this year, also has less than 15,000 miles on the odometer.
