Mercedes-Benz’s New Van Is a Dreamy Limousine

Mercedes-Benz is ready to change the way you think about vans.
The German marque has just unveiled a new concept called the Vision V that attempts to reimagine the people mover as the ultimate luxury vehicle. There’s much to like about the futuristic limousine, but its best feature is that it appears to be a preview of a model destined for production.
The Vision V provides all the evidence one could ever need that vans do not have to be utilitarian. Yes, they are less sexy than a sports car like the AMG GT, but they still can still be stylish. The concept, which is built on Mercedes’s new electric VAN.EA platform, has the same general profile as other vehicles in its class, but its smooth, flowing lines and glitzy details give it a distinctive flair. Particularly striking are the chrome radiator grille with three horizontal illuminated glass louvres up front and the uninterrupted taillight that runs along the edge of the back panel.

But it is the interior where the concept really shines. The immersive space has been designed to maximize comfort rather than efficiency. The Vision V’s sliding doors open to reveal a cabin covered in Crystal White Nappa leather, white silk, and dark wood trim. It is also equipped with a pair of cushy seats that look straight out of first class. The center console features controls that allow passengers to recline as much as they want, and also features a pop-out table for refreshments. There’s another row of seats up front, but passengers are unlikely to spend much time up there since the Vision V is meant for being driven in rather than driving.
That center console’s table also doubles as a beautifully designed glass chessboard, which is just one of the entertainment options that make the Vision V’s cabin an immersive “private lounge.” The interior is also equipped with a pop-up 65-inch screen and seven projectors that you can use to watch your favorite movie, play video games, or take in a 3D recreation of the environment the vehicle is traveling through. There’s also a 42-speaker Dolby Atmos surround sound system to ensure passengers feel at home, no matter how noisy it may be outside.

Intrigued? Well, you’re in luck. The Vision V is a preview of an actual production Mercedes. That model, which currently does not have a name, is expected to arrive sometime next year. It’s unclear how much the van will cost, but expect it to be on the higher end of the automaker’s pricing spectrum.
