The New Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer Is an ’80s Ode
Singer just unveiled a new reimagined Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe that looks like a perfect new car for the 1980s.
The car made its debut on Friday and, like every Singer, is a stunner, with details throughout that suggest this new reimagined Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is a lost gem from the 1980s—even though it never happened until now. It’s powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine that makes 420 horsepower. That engine is based on the 964’s, and the car itself is built on an original 964 monocoque that has been strengthened.
The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer has a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, and adjustable dampers. Singer says the car is intended for spirited driving on the road and track. The auto speaks to a definite sense of nostalgia about a time four decades ago but has also been updated to become more user- and driver-friendly.
“In the 1980s you could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest, naturally aspirated flat six. It became known as the Carrera with Super Sport Equipment,” Rob Dickinson, Singer’s founder, said in a statement. “Our services reference this car and celebrate the era with a vision for an ultimate, naturally aspirated, G model 911, reimagined for the twenty-first century. At its heart is a remarkable flat-six, bringing together our learnings from the last fifteen years, and adding variable valve timing for the first time.”

Buyers of the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer will supply a donor 964 Porsche 911, which Singer then disassembles, restores, and rebuilds into the final product. The company then rebuilds the engine, strengthens the chassis, adds carbon fiber, adds a rear wing on request, and redesigns the interior in consultation with the customer. The car is meant to be bespoke for each customer to a great degree, beyond all the upgrades.
“Technology is incorporated with restraint, allowing for discrete navigation and phone connectivity,” Singer says. The shop has tested versions of the new car at tracks in Germany, the U.K., and Italy.
The car is the latest for Singer Vehicle Design, which, since its founding in 2009, has been the kind of restomod shop that unites virtually every lover of Porsche and cars in general. Their cars, which they call reimaginings, are the standard by which lots of other restomod shops measure themselves, as they manage to combine nostalgia, craftsmanship, and, perhaps most importantly, tastefulness.
The cars are so admired that it’s not uncommon to see Singers go for high prices at auction and hold their value long after they’ve been sold by Singer, which is a measure of how the market feels about the company’s creations but also a measure of how much respect the Porsche community has for Dickinson’s shop. The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer is expected to be no different in this respect and will be limited to a run of just 100 cars. Singer did not reveal a price, but something in the range of a half-million dollars is what buyers can expect.
