HBO Max to Launch in Eight Asia Pacific Markets in October

Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing HBO Max to fresh corners of Asia.

The company said Tuesday that its flagship streaming platform will launch direct-to-consumer on Oct. 15 in Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and six other smaller regional markets. The expansion continues the service’s gradual push across the region following earlier rollouts in East Asia, Australia and Europe.

Subscribers in the new markets will have access to HBO’s signature programming — including House of the Dragon, The Last of Us and The Penguin — alongside Max Originals and Hollywood features like Superman, Sinners and Final Destination Bloodlines. The platform will also carry Discovery’s factual hits (Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, 90 Day Fiancé), family favorites from Cartoon Network (Adventure Time, We Bare Bears), and classic animation (Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, etc.).

Warner Bros. Discovery is using the Asia launch to highlight the upcoming HBO drama IT: Welcome to Derry, a prequel series set in Stephen King’s horror universe. Produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti with Jason Fuchs, the show features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso — and Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise.

As HBO Max continues its gradual improvement on the product side, the service will arrive in these new markets with a refreshed interface that includes personalized profiles, content hubs and kids’ accounts with parental controls. Downloads for offline viewing will also be available.
