A Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG With 9,000 Miles Just Went Up for Grabs

Here’s your chance to score one of Mercedes-Benz’s best modern-day sports cars.
A 2011 SLS AMG Gullwing is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. Any example of the throwback two-door is worthy of your attention, but this particular one has also totaled fewer than 10,000 miles since leaving the factory.
The SLS was the successor to the SLR McLaren and the first vehicle that AMG designed and built by itself. It features a retrofuturistic design inspired by the legendary 300 SLR, including a pair of gull-wing doors. Just as noteworthy, though, is a V-8 that Mercedes claimed was the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated mill at the time of its launch in 2010. The SLS was in production for five years, during which time the German automaker exported a little over 2,700 examples, like the one currently up for sale, to the U.S.

The SLS up for grabs this week is a coupe variant from the vehicle’s second year of production, 2011. The vehicle is finished in a coat of AMG Alubeam Silver Paint with chrome trim and rides on a staggered set of 10-spoke alloy wheels, with 19-inch rims up front and a 20-inch pair in the back. Inside the vehicle, you’ll find power-adjustable sport seats covered in black Designo Exclusive leather (the material can also be found on the dashboard and center console). Creature comforts include an infotainment system with a rearview camera and navigation, dual-zone climate control, and a Bang & Olufsen speaker system.
As attractive as the SLS may be, its best feature is hidden from view. Crack open its hood and you’ll find a 6.2-liter V-8. The M159 engine makes 563 hp and 479 ft lbs of torque. The Mercedes engineers were able to put all that power to good use, too. The coupe could accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph. Those numbers should still be attainable in this example. The car, which the photos show as being in tip-top shape, has totaled 9,000 miles over the last 14 years.
