The New Bentley Continental GT Is the Most Extreme Supersports Ever

Bentley just unveiled the new Continental GT Supersports and, as expected, it’s a rear-wheel-drive, lightweight thriller, the most hardcore Supersports yet.

The marque’s 2027 iteration is powered by a twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes 656 horsepower, with no hybrid component, mated to an 8-speed double clutch transmission. There are two doors and two seats, which sit lower than a regular Continental GT, Bentley says. The aerodynamics have also been given some attention, and the car lost weight, too, coming in at under two metric tons. This is the first time a Continental GT has ever weighed that little.

Bentley says the new Continental GT Supersports also should be understood to represent a slight change in direction for the brand, back toward performance.

“It signifies a return to Bentley making more extreme cars—ones that combine extraordinary breadth of ability with true driver engagement, while remaining pieces of automotive artwork unique and bespoke to each customer,” Frank-Steffen Walliser, Bentley’s CEO, said in a statement. “Bentley has always thrived when revealing a more daring side, and the new Supersports is a statement of our intent.”

Just 500 Continental GT Supersports cars will be produced, and it is meant to celebrate 100 years of Bentley Supersports cars, after the first “Super Sports” was built in 1925 and became the first car from the marque to break 100 mph.

The new Continental GT Supersports will have a top speed of 192 mph, and go from zero to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, Bentley says. Not only is the new Supersports the lightest Continental GT ever, it’s also the lightest Bentley, period, in 85 years. “The rear cabin environment has been deleted, saving a significant amount of weight,” Bentley says, among other weight-reduction measures.

The new Continental GT Supersports will start at around $486,000, which one could view either as an investment—since the new Continental GT Supersports is limited in quantity, for now—or an acknowledgment that life is short and money is made to be spent. Bentley said it will begin taking orders in March, the first cars are planned to be built in the final months of 2026, and the first deliveries are planned for early 2027.
