Osprey’s Corvette-Powered Land Rover Defender Is up for Grabs
Osprey Custom Cars unveiled a slightly nutty custom SUV, based on the Land Rover Defender, at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show (SEMA). Now it can be yours.
The Osprey Custom 4×4 OC90 is powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 engine, or the same one that powers Corvettes and, in this application, makes north of 430 horsepower. That engine is tied to a 6-speed automatic transmission, with heavy-duty components equipped all over the car, including a heavier transfer case and axles. There are better front and rear brakes, a better cooling fan and radiator, a modified suspension, 18-inch wheels, custom dual exhaust, and a safety cage.
The new model is designed to look good and also give you the confidence to take it on virtually any terrain, short of lava or an ocean. Osprey’s stated mission is to “blend British heritage with American muscle,” and it’s one of more than a few shops that share that love for old Defenders, many of which are beat-up and in dire need of restoration and upgrades.

Osprey
Osprey showed the Custom 4×4 OC90 at SEMA in Las Vegas, which is the biggest event of the year for car restorers, modifiers, and even a big event for some traditional automakers, who all take the opportunity to show off their latest bonkers wares. The Custom 4×4 OC90 was exclusive to the show this year.
Inside, there is leather and modern infotainment, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an eight-speaker sound system. In the rear are four seats that face each other that can also be stowed for extra cargo capacity, meaning the Custom 4×4 OC90 can carry up to six people in enough comfort for short distances.
Osprey has priced the Custom 4×4 OC90 at $199,950, which is to be expected for a quality Land Rover Defender restomod. Of course, this one is already built, too, so no waiting for your custom order to be readied. Instead, the auto is waiting at the company’s headquarters in North Carolina for its new owner.
“Visit us,” Osprey says, “then drive it home!”
