Cadillac Unveils the New CT5-V Blackwing Deep Ocean Styling Package

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is one of the most under-appreciated luxury cars on the market, with the power of a supercar and the looks of a Cadillac. Now you can upgrade those looks even more, with an appearance package costing almost as much as another new Cadillac.

The CT5-V Blackwing Deep Ocean Package is $26,995, on top of the models’s base price of $102,795. Relative to that number, it isn’t so much, but it is considering Cadillac’s not-so-distant past of offering prices that mere mortals can afford. Nowadays, the brand is going in the opposite direction with cars like the Celestiq, which starts at $361,100. The CT5-V Blackwing isn’t in that stratosphere, but it does want to compete with autos like the BMW M5 and Audi RS7 and, as such, must be priced like them.

The Deep Ocean Package might, at any rate, communicate “expensive” to the few who are able to get it. Just 200 CT5-V Blackwings will get the trim, according to GM Authority.

The package will include lots of carbon fiber, which is a must these days for luxury cars trying to glam up. The exterior paint is distinctive blue, first seen on the Optiq-V, while the inside is black with blue accents. The brake calipers are blue, and so are the seat belts. The front seats are “high-performance bucket seats,” and the wheels are 19 inches wide and graphite colored.

GM Authority also notes that “while the Deep Ocean Package carries a $26,995 price tag, the combined price of some of its individual components totals $24,430 when optioned separately,” which means that if you aren’t one of the 200 buyers, you will be able to get most of the way there with existing options.

One could also forgo the Deep Ocean Package and have almost enough money to buy a second Cadillac, with a base CT4 starting at $36,000. That also illustrates the incredible range of Cadillacs on sale today, from cars going for as much as a well-equipped Toyota Camry to ones priced over 10 times that amount that want to compete with Rolls-Royce. GM will likely pick a lane at some point, either axing the low-priced cars and going full ultra-luxury or canceling the Celestiq and pretending like it never existed, but, for now, we can enjoy this strange moment.
