A Rare ‘Ketchup and Mustard’ Dodge Viper Is up for Auction Right Now
Here’s a Dodge Viper for those who really want to throw good taste to the wind.
A rare “Ketchup and Mustard” RT/10 from 1996 is currently up for grabs on Cars and Bids. The bold roadster is one of just 166 examples to leave the factory in its bold color combo.
There may be no American-made car more emblematic of the 1990s than the Viper. Dodge’s first true sports car debuted in 1992 and featured a serpentine look inspired by the Shelby Cobra Daytona of the 1960s. Just as noteworthy was a V-10 that allowed it to produce the kind of performance numbers that were only associated with European supercars during the era. A second-generation appeared five years later, in 1999, which refined the car’s look and added even more oomph.

It’s hard to think of a more aptly named special edition than the “Ketchup and Mustard” RT/10 that was released during the first year of the Viper’s second generation. The car’s stretched-out body is finished in Viper Red, or “Ketchup,” broken up only by yellow, or “Mustard,” graphics and matching 17-inch alloy wheels. The two-seat interior is covered in black leather, except for the steering wheel, shift nob, and emergency brake, which are each clad in red. The cabin also includes an air conditioning system and audio system that include aftermarket parts and wiring.
The 1996 RT/10 is also powered by an 8.0-liter V-10 mated to a six-speed manual transmission. In early second-generation models, the mill makes 415 hp and 488 ft lbs of torque, a jump from the 400 hp and 465 ft lbs of torque made by the 10-cylinder in its immediate predecessor. The engine has 25,800 miles on it at the time of cataloging, suggesting it’s still capable of those numbers, too. Other mechanical features include a limited-slip differential and four-piston front brake calipers.
