Singer Reimagines the Porsche 964-Generation 911 Cabriolet
Singer Vehicle Design is ready to have some fun in the sun.
The Porsche restoration specialists are turning their attention to the 964-series 911 Cabriolet. The shop has treated the beloved convertible to its usual assortment of performance upgrades and outfitted it with a new electric folding roof.
The company first teased the 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer earlier this month when it announced its new partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. The racing team’s high-performance engineering arm has been brought in to reinforce the notoriously wobbly chassis of the open-top speed machine. During the restoration process, Red Bull engineers digitally model the steel monocoque of the donor vehicle to calculate its torsional stiffness, which lets Singer know what trouble areas need to be reinforced with custom-made carbon-fiber structures. Once complete, the 964 drives and handles in a manner much closer to today’s 911 Cabriolets.

This is Singer we’re talking about, of course, so that’s just one of many upgrades it makes to the convertible. Each of the builds features a “reborn” 4.0-liter flat-six with variable valve timing, water-cooled cylinder heads, air-cooled cylinders, and an electrically powered fan. The mill, which features engineering from Cosworth, makes 420 hp, which is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, and can rev up to 8,000 rpm. Other mechanical improvement includes a titanium exhaust system, four-way adjustable dampers with electronic damping control, and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Because Singer’s builds are all commissions, each of its reimagined 911 Cabriolets will look just a little different. Despite this, they will all feature a wide-body, carbon-fiber body kit that is inspired by the Turbo-look variants of the 1980s. The rear of the vehicle has also been streamlined thanks to a newly designed, lightweight “Z pattern” electric folding roof. The convertible is also available with either a giant fixed wing or a more subtle speed-activated wing. Rounding things out are a set of 18-inch center-lock wheels wrapped in the latest Michelin Pilot Sport.

The shop, as is its wont, has not said how much the 911 Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer will cost. Its builds regularly fetch seven-figure hammer prices at auction, so the cost is likely very steep. Singer also intends to build just 75 examples of the convertible.
