Keanu Reeves in Talks to Join Lego Hybrid Movie At Universal
Keanu Reeves is looking to reteam with director Josh Cooley on the new live-action hybrid Lego movie at Universal, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The role follows Reeves voicing Duke Ka-Boom in Toy Story 4, which Cooley also directed. Reeves is angling towards another toy franchise-inspired movie, this time to be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians for Universal.
Plot details for the new Lego movie are not available, with Reeves understood to be in negotiations for the role in the hybrid film. The Hollywood star is also set to lend his voice to the title role of Hidari, a Japanese stop-motion action feature in development from director Masashi Kawamura.
The feature, unveiled at Cannes, is an expansion of Kawamura’s viral 2023 proof-of-concept short of the same name, which has racked up close to 5 million views on YouTube since its release. Reeves also voiced the character Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024).
The original Lego 3D animated movie saw directors-screenwriters Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bring the building bricks to life with a voice cast that includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.
Reeves, who remains in demand as a tentpole actor, also recently appeared in the movies Ballerina, Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff, and Good Fortune, the Aziz Ansari-directed comedy also made by Lionsgate.
He was also in the running to board Shiver, a sci-fi package that had Deadpool helmer Tim Miller attached to direct.
