Here’s Your Chance to Buy a One-of-a-Kind Ferrari Enzo
Here’s a Ferrari for the collector in search of something truly special.
A matte black 2004 Enzo will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s later this month. Any example of the automaker’s fourth halo car is special, but this vehicle is the only one to leave Maranello finished in its bold hue.
There are few series of vehicles that have more appeal to collectors than Ferrari’s halo cars. Starting with the 288 GTO, which debuted in 1984, each of these range-topping models has paired an outrageous look with racing-derived performance. The fourth of these vehicles is the Enzo, which arrived on the scene in 2002 with a head-turning carbon-fiber body designed by Pininfarina and a mid-mounted V-12 mated to a Formula 1-style six-speed automated manual gearbox. That mill is the last purely gas-powered unit to feature in one of the brand’s halo cars, which is a big part of the reason why Enzo prices have been trending upward this decade.

The example up for sale dates to the Enzo’s final year of production and was ordered by a member of the car-loving Royal Family of Brunei. Ferrari built just 400 examples of the analog supercar, almost all of which were finished in the automaker’s trademark Rossa Corsa, Giallo Modena, or glossy Nero, though other hues were available by special request. That is how this example ended up with its Matte Nero Opaco over Nero leather spec. The unique exterior finish was touched up by Carrozzeria Zanasi, the same facility that handles the marque’s Tailor Made vehicles, in 2022, ensuring that it looks brand new more than two decades after first rolling off the line.
It may have a one-off paint job, but this Enzo comes equipped with the same 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine found in every other example of the supercar. The brawny mill makes 651 hp and 485 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to all that grunt the car can rocket from zero to 60 mph in 3.14 seconds and reach a top speed of 221 mph. This example should still be capable of such feats. It looks to have been kept in excellent condition—it received Ferrari Classiche certification in 2022—and has just 3,581 miles on its odometer.

Intrigued? The matte black Enzo will be sold as part of RM Sotheby’s upcoming Sealed auction, bidding for which runs from Wednesday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 30. The auction house didn’t publish a price estimate, but something in excess of the $7.5 million a one-of-nine silver Enzo sold for earlier this year wouldn’t be a shock.
