McLaren Has an 810 HP Hybrid Supercar on the Way

McLaren is ready to usher in an era of change.

The British sports car maker, which recently revealed its first new model in nearly two years, is hard at work on a brand-new hybrid coupe, reports Automotive News. The car is part of a wave of new vehicles from the automaker and could arrive as soon as next year.

The upcoming model, which is reportedly codenamed P34, is expected to sit between the Artura and the 750S in the brand’s expanding lineup. Details surrounding the vehicle are still vague, but dealers who’ve seen a preview told the publication it will be longer than the marque’s current entry-level car and feature a wedge-shaped front inspired by the iconic F1.

A little more is known about what will power P34. Automotive News reports that the car, which is said to pay homage to McLaren’s rich racing history, will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain that pairs a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V-6 with some manner of electric assistance. The setup is being developed completely in-house and will supposedly produce 810 hp and 800 ft lbs of torque. That would make it significantly more powerful than the just-unveiled 788HS (seen up top), which is the ultimate evolution of the 720S. That lightweight supercar makes 777 hp and 590 ft lbs of torque.

Fortunately, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer to find out more about the car P34 will turn out to be. The model is expected to make its debut next year and will start at around $315,000, not including import and other related fees, when it finally goes on sale.

A representative for McLaren declined to comment on the matter to Robb Report.

The coupe is one of several reveals McLaren has planned between now and 2028. The automaker, which is now fully owned by Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings, is trying to change the way that it is viewed worldwide. Along with the new coupe, the company is also reported to be working on its first four-door utility vehicle. Last month, during Monterey Car Week, the marque also unveiled the McL 6GT, a concept that previews a future sports car which will be its first model to feature a manual transmission since the F1.
