JFA Yachts Just Launched a New 87-Foot Long Island Sailing Catamaran
JFA Yachts is on the way to making one explorer’s dreams come true.
The French shipyard just launched a sailing catamaran for an owner who plans to cruise the world with their family. The new Long Island 87 is part of JFA’s popular Long Island range, sitting between the smaller 85 and the larger 100. Measuring 86 feet, the multihull is engineered to give owners cruising autonomy, comfort, and reliability.
“We found this yacht to be the perfect balance between performance under sail and functional living spaces,” the future owner said in a statement. “The Long Island 87 is the optimal proven bluewater sailing catamaran available in the market today and well suited for our specific mission, to circumnavigate the globe with our family of four in unparalleled comfort, safety, and luxury.”

The first two 85 sailers in the series have already proven themselves on the high seas, carrying out long-distance voyages to remote locations such as Antarctica, Greenland, and the Baltic Sea, according to JFA. Penned in partnership with Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, the 87 shares the same design DNA as previous models, combining aluminum hulls with a composite deck and superstructure. That gives the cat a light displacement, ensuring strong sailing performance and comfortable cruising on lengthy passages.
The 87 does, however, introduce a fresh onboard layout to the line, with a beam of 39 feet creating generous living quarters. The expansive flybridge is the signature feature of the new model, functioning as a fully fledged living space with two helm stations, a sheltered bar, and a spacious lounge. The flybridge roof is also fitted with solar panels that generate power to reduce reliance on generators.

Below, the main deck is outfitted with a cockpit, lounge, and dining area that flows to the aft deck, the sunbathing area, and a swim platform with space for a 16-foot tender. Back inside, a living area spanning just over 1,330 square feet offers spacious accommodation for up to 10 guests and four crew.
The owner’s suite spans the full width of the main deck, with the owner’s ensuite in the port hull. The port hull also houses a children’s cabin with four berths and an aft guest cabin, while the starboard hull features a second guest cabin, along with the crew quarters.

The interiors will be executed by Darnet Design, with the team creating what JFA describes as “a bespoke atmosphere tailored to the owner’s expectations.”
In addition to the launch, the 87 also underwent mast stepping. That means the cat should hit the seas soon.
