This New 80-Foot Catamaran Will Be Home for One Globetrotting Family

If you need more proof that luxury yachts are increasingly replacing private residences, Red Yacht Design has it. The design studio, currently based in London, Miami, and Istanbul, just unveiled a new catamaran that will serve as a floating home for a family planning to spend extended periods at sea.

The 80-foot Manta, not to be confused with the 185-foot Manta that “eats” ocean trash, is currently under construction in Antalya, Turkey. It is being built for a private client, who has decided not to share their shipyard of choice. (Performance specs have also not been disclosed.) Red is credited with the interior design, though.

The all-aluminum explorer cat has an impressive beam of 35.5 feet, resulting in what Red says is exceptional interior volume for a yacht of her size. Those 298 GT have been turned into highly functional living quarters that prioritize everyday comfort over extravagance.

“When a family spends a significant amount of time on board, their relationship with the spaces becomes very different,” Red cofounder and design director Cana Gökhan explains. “Comfort, practicality, and a sense of belonging become essential.”

Soft forms and gentle neutral tones create a calm, homey feel throughout, while generous proportions give a sense of openness without sacrificing coziness. The chosen materials are not only elegant but durable, ensuring the yacht stays looking schmick even as the family puts it through its paces.

“For us, true luxury is creating an environment where people can simply enjoy being together and feel completely at ease,” Gökhan adds.

At the heart of Manta is a spacious open-plan salon with a lounge, bar, and dining area, where family and friends can gather. Away from the main social areas are three generous guest cabins and an owner’s suite. The owner also has a dedicated lounge and office. There is a fully equipped gym onboard, too, so seafarers can maintain their daily workout routines.

Manta is due to launch in mid-2028. Operation FNX is documenting the build of the cat and two other explorers—an 82-foot pocket superyacht and a 72-foot bluewater cruiser—on YouTube. The team says the goal is to show what it actually takes to turn ambitious ideas into vessels capable of crossing oceans.
