A Ford Bronco Once Owned by the Richard Nixon Estate Is up for Sale

Here’s your chance to acquire a classic off-roader with a presidential pedigree.
A 1972 Ford Bronco once owned by the Richard Nixon estate is currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer. The 4×4 was purchased while the disgraced former president was in office for use on his family compound in Southern California.
The Bronco up for auction is a first-generation model that was purchased in the same year it was built for use as a civic and government affairs vehicle. After leaving the factory, it was retrofitted with a Baja performance package by none other than desert racing legend Bill Stroppe. It was then delivered to the Nixon family estate in San Clemente, La Casa Pacifica, two years before Nixon resigned from office in the wake of the Watergate scandal that would have seen him likely impeached and removed from office.

Like the majority of first-generation Broncos, the example up for sale wears a three-door SUV body. The exterior sports a two-tone paint job, with the bulk of the body done up in Medium Goldenrod and the top in cream. The interior, meanwhile, is covered in Parchment Rosette vinyl, a hue that, after 53 years, looks like a dirty beige. Add in chrome trim and badging, along with a set of white 17-inch wagon wheels, and you have yourself an attractive retro 4×4. It does show some wear and tear, though, which is little surprise considering its age. Photos accompanying the listing show that the undercarriage has seen better days and that the interior is in need of a deep clean and reupholstering.
The Bronco is powered by a 302-cubic-inch V-8 mated to a three-speed automatic with a Stroppe adaptor. The listing is vague about mileage, saying simply that the vehicle has “under 100k miles shown.” We do know that the vehicle has been parked since its current owner acquired it in 2020, though the transmission, carburetor, fuel system, and brake hydraulics were all serviced earlier this year. It also will “start and run,” though there is a note that some work will be required to ensure that it is “roadworthy.”

The auction for the former Nixon family Bronco runs through this Saturday, May 31. As of press time, bidding had reached $51,000. But, in case you’re unfamiliar with how Bring a Trailer sales tend to work, don’t be surprised to see that number climb in the hours ahead.
