A Rare 1995 Porsche 911 Remastered by Gunther Werks Is Up for Grabs
An ultra-rare, reimagined version of a coveted Porsche could soon find a new home in your garage.
Part of RM Sotheby’s forthcoming Arizona event, this one-of-a-kind 1995 911 Remastered by Gunther Werks is headed to the auction block with a top estimate of $1.1 million. The sports car, which is one of only 25 Carrera-based models rebuilt by the company, first wowed crowds at the Quail in 2022, Hypebeast reported.
The Porsche that provides the foundation for the slick rebuild originally rolled off the line in 1995, predating the automaker’s move toward water-cooled engines in 1997. This earlier period marks what many serious enthusiasts believe to be the pinnacle of Porsche’s design, making its vehicles particularly valuable to collectors.
As for Gunther Werks’s Remastered version, the brand disassembled the model, replacing several exterior panels with lightweight carbon fiber and weaving even more of the durable material into the chassis itself. A powerful suspension system that combines JRZ adjustable coil-overs with remote reservoirs, custom rear control arms, uprated anti-rollbars, lightweight uprights, and a front strut brace have all been integrated to support the durable carbon fiber exoskeleton.
Oregon-based Rothsport Road and Race took charge of the project when it came to the rebuild’s engine and other inner workings. The car’s initial 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine was stripped down and expanded to four liters of displacement with forged internals and race-spec equipment, including two-stage MoTec engine management and a custom intake design based on the intake plenum of a 996-series Porsche 911 GT3. The result is a significant boost in power with an engine capable of producing 435 horsepower and 312 ft lbs of torque.
As a signifier of authenticity and rarity, each of the 25 Remastered Carreras is individually named after its commission, which is embossed on the door sill along with an inscription that reads “Limited to 1 of 25.” The specific example coming to auction is the Rennsport Aventura and is reported to be the last of the extremely limited 25-car run. Originally commissioned for $778,888 before delivery fees, the 1995 Porsche 911 Remastered by Gunther Werks is estimated to fetch between $900,000 and $1,100,000 when bidding commences on January 24, 2025.
Not a bad deal for a one-of-a-kind sports car.
