Angel’s Envy’s Cask Strength Rye Whiskey Now Has an Age Statement
Angel’s Envy drops its Cask Strength expressions just once a year, and whiskey fans usually snap them up very quickly. Interest has only increased since the distillery introduced a cask-strength rye whiskey back in 2023, and this year the “dual release” of these whiskeys features another first—the Cask Strength Rye now sports a 10-year age statement.
This step makes sense, given that Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon received its first age statement last year when it was released as a 10-year-old expression. If you’re unfamiliar with the distillery, it started releasing whiskey in 2011 and has made its name in the cask-finishing world. Specifically, the core bourbon is aged for about five years and then finished in port casks for up to six months. The Cask Strength version of that bourbon is obviously much older, but there are some other key differences.
According to the brand, the bourbon is aged using a “solera-inspired process,” in which older whiskey is blended with younger whiskey before being finished for up to three years in port casks. “Since each release builds on the one before it, we’re able to create a bourbon with real depth and continuity; something that evolves rather than resets,” said master distiller Owen Martin in a statement. “The extended finishing in ruby port barrels enhances both structure and richness, resulting in a bold, layered expression that’s powerful, polished, and distinctly Angel’s Envy.” This year’s release is bottled at 117.8 proof.
The Cask Strength Rye also builds upon the core version, a whiskey that is finished in Caribbean rum barrels after initial maturation. The new 10-Year Cask Strength Rye, which is bottled at 111.6 proof, is a blend of whiskey distilled in 2013 and 2015 that was given a secondary maturation in rum barrels for a much longer period of time—four years, to be exact. “Since launching our first Cask Strength Rye in 2023, we’ve consistently heard from consumers eager for its return,” said Martin. “With the 10-Year Cask Strength Rye, we wanted to take that enthusiasm further by introducing an age statement. Aged in both oak and Caribbean rum barrels for a combined ten years, this whiskey wasn’t made to meet a deadline; it was made to exceed expectations, reflecting the time, intention, and evolution behind every detail while staying true to our finishing-forward philosophy.”
The 2026 edition of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon (SRP $250) is being released in a run of 20,640 bottles, while the 2026 10-Year Cask Strength Rye ($270) is a more limited allocation of 10,800 bottles that will be exclusive to the U.S. market.
