Dartz Begins Selling Over-the-Top Coachbuilt SUVs in the U.S.
Lovers of over-the-top SUVs have a new name to turn to in the U.S.
Dartz Motors, a Latvian-based coachbuilder known for some truly ridiculous custom jobs, has started selling the Prombron Black Stallion Type C stateside. But the company wants to do more than just sell vehicles in America. It’s also thinking about building them here.
The company’s first U.S. model, the Prombron Black Stallion Type C, is based on the out-of-production Hummer H2 or Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. The show car that the brand is currently showing off in Los Angeles appears to be based on the former. The vehicle’s general shape and profile remain the same, but it’s dressed up with an ultra-angular body kit that the company says is inspired by the Art Deco movement, a claim sure to leave art historians scratching their heads.
No pictures of the interior have been made available, but Motor Authority reports that the cabin is based on that of the Prombon Kombat that appeared in Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2012 film, The Dictator. The inside of the vehicle can also be optioned with diamonds, animal skins, and high-end bottles of vodka. This suggests that Dartz aims to do what Apocalypse Manufacturing is doing with its Luka Doncic-approved off-roaders—only with more of a focus on luxury.
Dartz’s announcement of its arrival on this side of the Atlantic is curiously light on mechanical details, though the GLS-Class-based version will be available with a twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes 1,500 hp. The company did tease a couple of new models that are destined for the U.S., though. These include the rugged Prombron Black Stallion CLV, which will be built on a General Motors platform, and the high-performance Prombron Iron Stallion, which is based on the Lamborghini Urus.
The company, which is based out of Latvian capital of Riga, is also looking into starting to build vehicles in the U.S. The company is looking at a facility in Florida, according to CarScoops. The website points out that not only would this allow the company to better cater to its clientele but could allow it to sidestep costly tariffs that Donald Trump has promised to enact when he returns to office.
Dartz has yet to announce how much its vehicle will cost, but the Prombron Black Stallion Type C is expected to be priced around $500,000. Future models could cost as much as $2.5 million, though. The company is taking inquiries now through its new U.S. website.
