Ebony Magazine Names VP Kamala Harris Icon of the Year
While Vice President Harris is looking to change her title to President, she’s already been named an icon by Ebony.
The magazine is honoring the Democrat at its annual Power 100 awards to be held Nov. 17, naming her Icon of the Year.
“As the daughter of parents who were active during the Civil Rights Movement, I have long been inspired by heroes like Thurgood Marshall – the same heroes who have graced the pages of Ebony – I am both honored and humbled to be recognized as the 2024 Ebony Icon of the Year,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement.
Usher was named the Global Visionary of the Year; he joins honorees including Cynthia Erivo, whose Wicked debuts later this month and is behind honored with the Pathbreaker of the year; and Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who will be given a People’s Choice Award. Civil rights scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw will receive the Humanitarian of the Year.
“After more than thirty years as an entertainer, I am humbled to be continuously recognized in monumental ways,” Usher said. “This award is not only for me – it is for the culture we have built together. Thank you to Ebony for this honor.”
Ebony’s Power 100 honors the top changemakers and luminaries in Black America. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Michelle Buteau and Tone Bell.
