Ford’s New One-Off Frostwarden Bronco Is an 1,200 HP Arctic Rescue Car

Ford made quite the car to house its most powerful crate engine yet.

The auto giant just unveiled the Megazilla 2.0 at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. And, to top it all off, the engine’s first home is nestled inside a bonkers one-off Bronco called the Frostwarden.

Megazilla 2.0 is certainly worthy of its name. The supercharged 7.3-liter V-8 can churn out over 1,200 hp and 1,000 ft lbs of torque (for comparison, a standard Bronco makes 300 hp, according to Car and Driver). Ford equipped the engine with a stronger lock, upgraded pistons, larger fuel injectors, and a different belt drive and damper to give the engine all that juice. It also placed a Gen 6 Whipple supercharger at its core, along with a supercharger-specific camshaft.

If you were heading out on an Arctic trek this winter, Frostwarden would be certainly be a helpful car to have on rescue duty. The one-off is meant to be a beastly search-and-rescue vehicle that can brave the elements. Riding on 42-inch BFGoodrich tires mounted on bespoke 18-inch Weld bead-lock wheels, the Bronco is lifted with a 74Weld portal gear lifts and has upgraded Dana driveline hardware, along with custom Bilstein dampers.

Helping out with those rescue missions are the off-road lights, a roof-mounted spare tire, and an external gas tank—and, of course, the Bronco’s vibrant black-and-yellow livery. That design scheme continues into the interior, where the two colors cover every inch of the cabin, including the seats and the “Megazilla” embossing on the steering wheel.

Inside, Frostwarden is yellow and black from head to toe.

And though the Frostwarden is a one-off and sadly, not available for purchase, you can may see the Megazilla again sometime soon: Ford is using its latest build to show off the future bonkers creations it can craft around its engines. And the automaker has plenty on the horizon, with rumors swirling this summer that a Bronco pick-up truck may be in the works. Speaking of its famed off-roader, Ford teamed up with outdoor outfitter Filson earlier this year on a Bronco that offers up a retro-inspired design with the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 as the Bronco Raptor.
