Hiroshi Fujiwara Teams Up With Maserati On an Exclusive Supercar

Designer and tastemaker Hiroshi Fujiwara is once again teaming up with Maserati—this time on a bespoke supercar that’s part of an exclusive collection.

Inspired by the Trident customization program, the Fuoriserie By is a new series from Maserati that invites the automaker’s past collaborators to reimagine one of its famous signature models (h/t Hypebeast). In this case, that model is the MC20 Cielo but with a range of customization options that allow drivers to make theirs singular.

“Our wish here is for clients to express their personality and passion by creating their very own Maserati,” Klaus Busse, Maserati’s head of design, said in a statement. “Just like Hiroshi, everyone can choose from a wide range of personalization features from our Fuoriserie collections or take more individual journeys to design true one-of-a-kind rolling sculptures.”

This latest collaboration between Fujiwara and Maserati is the most customizable yet.

Practically every element of the Cielo has been reconfigured, including the tonneau cover at the rear, which is emblazoned with the lightning bolt symbol of Fujiwara’s Fragment Design agency rather than Maserati’s trident, a first for the company. The monochromatic interior is as luxurious as you’d expect. Each six-way power seat comes clad in smooth black leather with white contrast stitching at the seams and the trident logo embroidered into the headrest. For added authentication, a commemorative plate set between the two seats celebrates the unique collaboration, and every driver has the option of opening up the cabin thanks to a retractable smart glass roof. Under the hood, this Cielo retains its F1-inspired V6 Nettuno engine, so its performance remains as exceptional as its design.

Fujiwara has a long history with Maserati having teamed up with the carmaker more than once. But the Japanese multi-hyphenate – who alternates between being a DJ, musician, streetwear designer, and product designer – has an influence that defies traditional categorization. Fujiwara’s description of the vehicle resulting from this partnership as “tailor-made garments to be proudly worn along the streets of the world,” might best express his integrated point of view.
