The photorealistically animated film Mufasa: The Lion King, which hit theaters on Dec. 20, is a prequel to Jon Favreau’s The Lion King (2019), a remake of 1994’s critically acclaimed animated classic. The voice cast for Mufasa features several stars and well-known actors, including Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Aaron Pierre, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and Kelvin Harrison Jr; Beyoncé and rap mogul Jay-Z’s 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, also makes her feature film debut. And Mufasa: The Lion King‘s soundtrack includes seven songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Mufasa has gotten an official premium video-on-demand (PVOD) release date of Feb. 18, and is currently available for preorder on Prime Video. It will also be available to buy or rent on digital platforms like Apple TV+ on Feb. 18.
Additionally, the DVD, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release date is set for April 1, and all three formats are also now available to preorder on Amazon. The 4K UHD and Blu-ray physical copies come with a digital code, allowing purchasers to download the digital version on their preferred devices upon release.
Disney+ has not yet confirmed the official streaming date for the Barry Jenkins-directed movie, but The Hollywood Reporter will update this story once the release date is announced.
