Humphreys Yacht Design and JFA Yachts Unveil a New 164-Foot Explorer

Humphreys Yacht Design is bringing a new custom creation to the high seas.

The firm is partnering with the team at JFA Yachts on a 164-foot explorer yacht, and the duo just unveiled the first exterior renderings of the vessel. The project is currently being built at JFA’s shipyard in Concarneau, France, with a launch date set for later this year, Superyacht Times reported.

The explorer comes with both MTU 12V 2000 M72 engines and 290kW Danoss electric motors. That hybrid approach extends to its materials, too, with the shipyard opting to use aluminum for the lower superstructure and composite for the upper superstructure, to drop the vessel’s weight. And the 164-footer comes with plenty of solar panels as well, meaning that it can cruise emissions-free and operate silently at anchor to boot.

The 164-foot has a top speed of 20 knots.

As you’d expect with an explorer yacht, long-range capabilities are top of mind. The vessel can cruise at 12 knots (with a top speed of 20 knots in hybrid boost mode) for over 5,000 nautical miles, according to the publication. The deck’s layout, too, helps make long-range trips a breeze, with specific locales for toys and tenders onboard, including a nearly 31-foot tender in the aft and a foredeck made to house rescue tenders and Jet Skis.

With room for 10 passengers and 10 crew, the new yacht includes four staterooms on the lower deck. The upper deck, meanwhile, is home to the owner’s suite, which has its own Jacuzzi, office, and terrace. A salon, galley, and dining spot can all be found on the main deck, which also has an outdoor space with its own bar. Italian design firm m2atelier, based in Milan, is handling the contemporary interiors.

Humphreys Yacht Design has been creating plenty of new vessels as of late. The company partnered with Oyster Yachts on the shipyard’s new sailing yacht, which was unveiled back in May. The 805 offers up plenty of classic superyacht features rarely seen on this type of craft, including a twin access swim platform. And it’s meant for round-the-world sailing—something the explorative folks at JFA could certainly get behind.
