Ian Callum Just Unveiled a Gorgeous, Six-Figure Mini Cooper Restomod

Car designer Ian Callum has his fingerprints on the Jaguar F-Type and XK, in addition to lots of other side projects, including an EV, a reimagined Eames lounge chair, and even a Scotch. Now, he’s turned his attention to the Mini Cooper, unveiling a new version with 110 horsepower, upgraded brakes and suspension, and an interior that seems built to last.

The Wood and Pickett Mini by Callum was made in collaboration with Wood and Pickett, a coachbuilder. The 1,310-cc motor has a new cylinder head, new twin-pipe exhaust, and two-point fuel injection, while the brakes are now 8.4-inch discs, and new 13-inch wheels have replaced the older versions. The front and rear bumpers have been tweaked, and the lights are now LED. Inside, a small screen has Apple CarPlay, and there is walnut, along with metal switches.

The first Wood and Pickett Mini by Callum was built for model David Gandy, though others will be available, too, as part of a limited production run.

“The Wood and Pickett Mini by CALLUM embodies everything I love about automotive craftsmanship, bespoke, attention to detail, and, of course, performance,” Gandy said in a statement. “I’m proud to be the first owner of such a remarkable vehicle.”

Founded in 1947, Wood and Pickett became famous in the 1960s and 1970s for Mini conversions, building cars for leading musicians of the period like Mick Jagger, Elton John, and Paul McCartney, according to Autocar. Since then, it faded from the limelight a bit and did Rolls-Royce conversions in the 1980s under a period of ownership by a British dealer. These days, ownership is through Motaclan, which supplies parts for classic British brands like TVR and Rover.

“The Mini is one of the most important cars ever created not just for its innovative engineering, but for what it represents culturally as a symbol of British ingenuity and style. It’s a car that broke the rules and became a global icon,” Callum said in a statement. “To reimagine it through the lens of Callum, with Wood and Pickett’s craftsmanship, has been deeply rewarding.”

The Wood and Pickett Mini by Callum is on offer for £75,000, or just over $102,000 at current exchange rates.
