JackRabbit’s Powerful New E-Bikes Fold Flat for Travel

Here’s more proof that e-bikes are no longer the hulking monstrosities they once were.

JackRabbit Mobility has just unveiled upgraded versions of its electric two-wheelers, the OG2 and XG, according to New Atlas. The company is touting the new Pro Models as its “most capable and useful bikes” yet.

The San Diego-based outfit has come a long way since bursting onto the electric mobility scene in 2018. Its first crowd-funded model, the eponymous JackRabbit, looked like a penny farthing with its wheels reversed. In recent years, though, its models have begun to resemble the BMX-style bikes that so many of us rode in our youth. The company’s design language may have changed, but all of its battery-powered two-wheelers, no matter what they look like, have been lightweight and foldable, making them both easy to move and store.

The new OG2 Pro takes the company’s entry level model and equips it with the 500-watt motor found in the standard XG. Not only does the added power make it that much easier to climb hills, but it also let riders reach speeds of up to 20 mph on paved roads. It comes with a single battery pack that’ll allow riders to travel 24 miles on a charge, making it well-suited for local commutes. The new upgraded powertrain does add some weight to the bike—the Pro weighs five pounds more than the standard OG2—but at 30 pounds it will still be easy for an adult to carry.

The top-of-the-line XG Pro comes with an even more powerful 749-watt motor and wears a set of all-terrain tires. Its base top speed is the same as the OG2 Pro, but when the model-exclusive Off-Road mode—which can only be used by riders 18 and over—is engaged it can reach 24 mph. It comes with two battery packs, which doubles range to 48-plus miles. It does weight 20 percent more (37 pounds), but it’s still foldable and can even be taken on the plane, as can its even smaller sibling.
