Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris Condo to Hit the Public sale Block this March

Karl Lagerfeld’s apartment on the Paris’ Left Bank is going under the hammer this March 26, 2024. The apartment is said to have been the designer’s base residence during the last 13 years of his life.

Karl Lagerfeld, best known as the creative director of Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous label, owned several properties throughout his lifetime. Apart from an apartment in New York and a villa in France, his apartment in this prime district of Paris is an important location, as the creative director stayed here from 2006 until his passing in 2019.

The striking apartment and work studio spans over 2,800 square feet on the third floor of a centuries-old building in Saint-Thomas d’Aquin, one of Paris’ prime districts, boasting views of the Seine, the Tuileries Garden, and the Louvre.

The property underwent a comprehensive two-year-long renovation to suit Lagerfeld’s liking. The result is a minimalist and somewhat futuristic home that is strongly characterised by abundant glass panels and concrete and resin flooring. The very well-lit apartment has altogether five rooms including the bathroom. The sizeable walls are also adorned with bookshelves that store over 300,000 books from Lagerfeld’s collection. The only bedroom in the space is connected to a segmented bathroom with a large tub and a cosmetic refrigerator.

As one would expect to see in the home of one of the world’s most prominent couturiers, the dressing room is gigantic, with floor-to-ceiling mirrored walls and integrated cabinetry. A narrow corridor leads from the living room to the dressing room and the modest kitchen without passing the bedroom, back then, for the convenience of Lagerfeld’s working team.

Nowadays, the spacious apartment is rather empty, for most of personal belongings were sold in several auctions hosted by Sotheby’s throughout 2021 and 2022. These include iconic pieces such as Lagerfeld’s fingerless Chanel leather gloves and Chanel crocodile tote bag.

Suggested to sell at approximately EUR 5.3 million (or around USD 5.8 million), Karl Lagerfeld’s apartment will go under the hammer at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry on March 26, 2024.
