King Charles and Princess Diana’s Wedding Dom Pérignon Is up for Grabs
You may not be a royal, but now you can sure drink like one.
An ultra-rare bottle of bubbly from the wedding of King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, and Princess Diana, then known as Lady Diana Spencer, will soon be up for grabs at Danish auction house Brunn Rasmussen. This exclusive, unopened magnum of Dom Pérignon 1961, a coveted Champagne in its own right, is expected to fetch between $78,000 and $95,000 on the block.
Charles and Diana got married on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, in an event that was known was the Wedding of the Century at the time. To ring in the occasion, this special bottle of Dom was made just for the wedding, which continued in an opulent reception at Buckingham Palace. The rare magnum, which was disgorged in 1981, has its own custom label that reads, “Specially shipped to honour the marriage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, 29 July 1981.”

“This special edition was produced in extremely limited numbers and exclusively for the official festivities and selected guests of the royal wedding,” Bruun Rasmussen’s Thomas Rosendahl said in a press statement. According to the house’s head of the wine department, it is especially rare for a bottle like this to pop up on the block.

The British royal family has long been a point of fascination for the general public, meaning that plenty of items connected to its members have caused quite a tizzy at auction. Over 300 pieces of Princess Diana’s wardrobe headed to auction this past June, including Lady Di’s Catherine Walker evening gown that she wore on her 1986 royal tour of Saudi Arabia. A 2013 Bentley Mulsanne that chauffeured King Charles is also up for grabs this month, too. And you can even stay at the monarch’s favorite country escape: the Folly at Sandringham, which, you guessed it, is a piece of the famed Sandringham Estate.
