Lewis Hamilton Drives a Ferrari in a ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ Remake

Lewis Hamilton has one thing in common with Cameron Frye’s father: They both love the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder more than life itself.

The F1 star got the chance to hop behind the wheel of the iconic ride in a recreated scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Calling the ride “a dream car” in his Instagram post, Hamilton took on the role of the garage employee that takes the Ferrari for a joyride through the streets of Chicago, ESPN reported.

The nearly three-minute clip, whipped up by Hamilton’s production company, Dawn Apollo Films, uses some pretty fantastic editing to seamlessly add the F1 racer into the John Hughes 1986 classic. In the video, Hamilton tells Cameron (Alan Ruck), Ferris (Matthew Broderick), and Sloane (Mia Sara) that they have “nothing to worry about” when it comes to the car, since, “I’m a professional.” The F1 driver said in his caption that “it definitely took a lot of cutting edge tech, production and planning to get” the clip right. Edward Norton (for some reason) is also there, sitting beside Hamilton on his wild ride through the Windy City.

In the same Instagram post, Hamilton also decreed that there was “no better way to start the [F1] season than by fulfilling another dream.” The racer has also realized his lifelong goal of racing with the Prancing Horse; this year marks his first season with Ferrari after he announced he was leaving the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, which he had driven with since 2013, last year. The seven-time Formula 1 world champ spent his official first day with the Prancing Horse team last month, using the time to meet with the team in Maranello and snapping a photo with a Ferrari F40. Hamilton will be cruising in a Ferrari SF-25 this season, and only time will tell if he can end Ferrari’s 17-year title drought.

As for Cameron’s dad’s 250 GT California Spyder, the prop car used to film the driving scenes in the flick headed to auction two years ago. Another prop car, also built by Modena Design & Development, used for Ferris Bueller’s crash scene—where Cameron kicks the convertible and sends it crashing to the forest floor below his house— was also up for grabs in 2022. So, as you can see, autos from the iconic film don’t come up for grabs very often. After all, life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss the chance to snag a coveted piece of movie memorabilia.
