LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle: LOEWE Reunites With Studio Ghibli
LOEWE has released its final collaboration with Studio Ghibli, the renowned Japanese animated film studio with The LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle capsule collection.
The bold and intricately crafted pieces are a result of “Blending hand-drawn and digital animation, Howl’s Moving Castle is technically innovative, exemplifying the power of craft as a bridge between the old and new—a creative approach that LOEWE is proud to share” says Jonathan Anderson, LOEWE creative director.
This final collection reaffirms Anderson’s fondness for the world of Hayao Miyazaki following the success of Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
Released in 2004, Miyazaki’s fantasy epic recounts a story of loyalty and compassion against a backdrop of magic, imposing technology and the destructive effects of war. The tale, says the designer, is “incredibly resonating” in the current context. Key characters in the film – Sophie, Howl, Calcifer and others – come to life through the clothes and accessories, drawn as leather or shearling intarsia, turned into embroidery on leather or textile, or decorated with crystal and stud inlays on leather. They appear on bags including the Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona and Luna, as well as the Bracelet pouch. They also enliven small leather goods, jumpers, jackets and shirts with details such as appliqué, raffia or feathers, making them stand out as if they were alive.
This collection of heartfelt, fulfilling, fantasy and sentiment is available in selected stores worldwide this February.
