Mammoth Overland’s New Off-Road Trailer Is Its Toughest Yet

Mammoth Overland’s latest trailer was designed to get you out of any situation, no matter how dire.

The Washington-based camping company has pulled back the curtain on an off-road caravan called the Xtinction Level Escape, or XLE. With its latest creation, the shop used a previous model, the ultra-capable Extinction Level Event, as a base, and improved it in nearly every single area.

From a looks perspective, the XLE blends right in with the rest of the Mammoth lineup. It’s a rugged trailer that rides on set of knobby all-terrain tires (the new model and the TL are the only that feature a double axle design). The XLE is the company’s longest trailer yet, with a length of 18.4 feet. It also has a ground clearance, meaning it truly is ready for off-road adventures. The aluminum body of each Mammoth model was designed to take a beating, but this is especially true of the XLE, which sits upon a powder-coated steel chassis and comes equipped with MOLLE-style blast shields and windows made from inch-thick bulletproof glass.

While no one would call the XLE’s fully pressurized interior homey, it does feature a number of creature comforts for road trips. The surprising spacious cabin, like that of the TL, can be configured with either a king-size bed or dual bunk beds, meaning it can sleep up to four adults. It also features a 12-volt air conditioning system, a 45-liter interior fridge (though the kitchenette is located outside the vehicle), and a cramped-but-functional bathroom with a stand-up shower.

The trailer, like all Mammoths, also comes with its fair share of safety and survival features. These include 360-degree night-vision CCTV, sonic defense, bear deterrent, and communication systems. There is also a rapid-access roof hatch, a dedicated gun safe, and an integrated medical kit. No need to worry about what will keep things running, either. In addition to a back-up portable generator, the trailer also features a 1,200-Ah battery system and 400-watt solar panel array to ensure off-the-grid operation.
