Mansory Just Turned the G-Wagen Into a Convertible With Suicide Doors

Mansory’s newest creation is here.
On Wednesday, the German tuner unveiled a four-door convertible version of Mercedes-Benz’s G-Wagen with rear-hinged doors and an 820 horsepower V-8 engine—and that almost seems tasteful compared to other Mansory creations as of late.
Mansory debuted the Speranza in Monaco and describes it as a “complete vehicle conversion.” It’s the seventh G-Wagen derivative that Mansory has made, including cars like the Mansory Gronos Coupé EVO C. This one sounds a bit more complicated than past Mansory G-Wagen builds, though, and it’s all to do with that removable roof. There’s a reason one doesn’t often see four-door convertibles.
“Since the roof is a load-bearing part of the body, the entire vehicle structure must be comprehensively modified, as removing the roof significantly weakens the vehicle’s structure,” Mansory said in a statement. “Various body reinforcements (in the frame and sill areas) are used to fully compensate for the lack of torsional rigidity and provide the vehicle with the necessary stability. Since this convertible is also a fully off-road capable vehicle that, due to its intended use, requires a particularly torsionally rigid body, these complex body reinforcements are of particular importance.”

The Speranza also has rear-hinged doors for passengers in the back, also known as suicide doors. On the inside, the Speranza is fully customizable based on customer requests, part of Mansory’s goal of making cars that are “one of one” in that each car is unique, if only in some of the details. The Mansory branding will be hard to escape.
“Many other lovingly crafted details of the highest quality—such as the seat belts with the Mansory logo, full carbon sports pedals with Mansory logos, a Mansory leather-carbon sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom, elaborately quilted Mansory leather floor mats, Mansory lettering on the door handles, and many other detailed solutions make the ‘Mansory Speranza’ a very special vehicle that masterfully implements individual customer wishes in every respect, even in the interior,” Mansory says.
Under the hood is a 4.0-liter V-8 engine that makes 820 horsepower, which Mansory says can power the car from zero to 62 mph in just four seconds. The top speed is limited to 155 mph. The tuner did not reveal a price, though a seven-figure number would not be surprising.
