Marta Ezpeleta Named new CEO of Spain’s The Mediapro Studio

There’s been some executive shuffling at Spanish production and distribution heavyweight Mediapro, with Marta Ezpeleta named the new CEO of The Mediapro Studio (TMS), the group’s content production and distribution arm, replacing Laura Fernández Espeso, who will take over the role of CEO of the entire Mediapro group.

“Marta’s vision, professionalism and dedication have been instrumental to the Studio’s growth and global expansion,” said Espeso in a statement. “I have worked closely with her and am confident she will excel in leading our world-class production team.”

Ezpeleta joined Mediapro in 2019 after more than 20 years at The Walt Disney Company in Spain, where she oversaw content distribution and marketing for the region. At The Mediapro Studio, she has spearheaded the international distribution of hit series like The Head, Paraíso and Express. The company’s feature output includes The Good Boss with Javier Bardem and Official Competition starring Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas.

“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to build on the exceptional work of Laura and the entire Mediapro team,” said Ezpeleta. “The Studio’s courageous, community-focused storytelling is a point of immense pride, and I look forward to continuing this mission.”

Javier Esteban replaces Ezpeleta to become the new international director at TMS. Esteban also used to work at Disney before joining Mediapro’s distribution team in 2019.

“Javier’s strategic mindset, results-driven approach and international expertise make him ideally suited for overseeing our global content operations,” added Fernández Espeso.

Espeso was named Mediapro’s new general manager earlier this year, following the exit of GM Juan Ruiz de Gauna. In its 2023 list, The Hollywood Reporter named her one of the most powerful women in international television.
