Sharona Nazarian: Beverly Hills has given me and my family so much, and I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to give back. I’m an immigrant, and I know the value of opportunity and community. Public service allows me to help preserve and enhance the incredible quality of life we have here, and to ensure it remains a vibrant, safe, and welcoming place for future generations.

One of your key focuses has been sustainability. Can you tell us more about the initiatives you’ve spearheaded?

Sharona Nazarian: Absolutely! I’m particularly proud of the Disposable Foodware Accessories Ordinance, which encourages consumers to request disposable items like cutlery and condiments rather than automatically receiving them. It’s a small change, but one that helps shift our culture toward reducing waste. I’ve also supported RethinkBHTap, which promotes our city’s high-quality drinking water and reduces plastic bottle use. Both initiatives align with my goal of making Beverly Hills more sustainable for the future.

You’ve served in so many leadership roles, from the Rotary Club to the Beverly Hills Police Chief’s Advisory Board. How do you balance all these responsibilities?

Sharona Nazarian: It comes down to passion and dedication. I’m deeply committed to Beverly Hills, and I believe in the power of collaboration. I’ve had the privilege of working with so many incredible people and organizations over the years, and together, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot. It’s about finding that balance between leadership and teamwork to truly make a difference.

Your work with the Los Angeles Commission for Alcohol and Other Drugs has also been impactful. What was your main focus there?

Sharona Nazarian: During my time as Chair, I restructured the Commission’s long-term goals and mission statement, bringing a renewed focus on prevention and recovery. Substance abuse is a critical issue that affects all communities, and I’ve always been passionate about helping people overcome these challenges. It’s about creating pathways to healthier, safer lives.

You’re known for your innovative approach to governance. What’s your vision for the future of Beverly Hills?

Sharona Nazarian: My vision is to keep Beverly Hills as a premier destination for residents and visitors alike, while ensuring it remains a safe and welcoming community. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate new technologies and creative solutions to enhance city services and security. I want Beverly Hills to be a place where families thrive, businesses succeed, and everyone feels proud to call it home.

What would you say is your proudest achievement in your role so far?

Sharona Nazarian: It’s hard to pick just one, but launching the Civility Statement for all city commissions is something I hold dear. It set a tone of respect and unity that’s essential in a city like ours. I also helped start the first cultural roundtable, which brought various faith-based organizations together, fostering understanding and collaboration. These are initiatives that promote a sense of community and inclusion, which is what Beverly Hills is all about.

Sharona Nazarian: I want to thank everyone for their trust and support. It’s truly an honor to serve this community. Together, we’ve made great strides in improving our city, and I’m excited about what the future holds.
