New GM Concept Is a Futuristic Chevrolet Corvette Supercar

The first official glimpse of the Chevrolet Corvette’s future is coming from overseas of all places.
General Motors‘ new Advanced Design Studio in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, has just unveiled a wild new concept inspired by the most American of sports cars. The futuristic coupe looks like nothing in the model’s history and even features an electric powertrain.
The vehicle, dubbed simply the Chevrolet Corvette concept car, is one of three prototypes we’ll see this year based on the famous nameplate. The eighth-generation ‘Vette, or C8, is the first to utilize a mid-engine layout and features a design more in line with the European sports cars GM views as its peers. The new concept’s design forgoes the C8’s more aggressive elements but looks more like a sleek hypercar from the old continent than a front-engine speed machine.

Were it not for a minimalistic reimagining of the crossed flag logo up front, and a couple of other subtle nods throughout, the Corvette is unlikely to be the first car that pops to mind when you see this concept. The top half of the vehicle is as streamlined as they come, with large fenders and a Koenigsegg-esque bubble cockpit that features a rear split window similar to that found on the C2. The lower half of the vehicle features a sculptural shape that calls to the mind the curvaceous C3, with prominent air intakes up front and an even larger diffuser in the back. The interior, meanwhile, features the uncluttered cabin design we’ve come to expect of electric concepts.
Because yes, the Chevrolet Concept concept car is an EV. Technical details are still scarce, but Top Gear reports that the vehicle is powered by electric motors. That doesn’t mean the sports car is going all-electric, though. The next iteration of the car will also be available with its trademark V-8.

So, is the U.K. ‘Vette destined for production? Almost certainly not, but it’s easy to imagine elements of the look being incorporated into a future iteration of the vehicle. The same goes for the other two Corvette concepts GM is expected to show off in 2025. A second, via the automaker’s Los Angeles design studio, is expected to be unveiled in the next couple of months, followed by a third, courtesy of the main Detroit team, before the end of the summer. That third will be the one to really pay attention to, as there’s a chance it just might be an actual preview of the next-generation C9.
