Ooni’s New Halo Pro Spiral Mixer Makes Pro-Grade Pizza Dough at Home
Ooni has effectively cornered the pizza-making market with its outdoor and indoor ovens. Now the Scottish company wants to help you perfect the ingredients that go into your pie.
Ooni will debut on April 8 its Halo Pro Spiral Mixer, an appliance that will allow you to whip up professional-grade pizza dough at home. Available in both Polar White and Charcoal Grey colorways, the $799 mixer will have the capacity to handle up to 11 pounds of dough at a time—enough for 20 pizzas or six loaves of bread.
The Halo Pro is quite different from the at-home stand mixers you may be familiar with. It prioritizes spiral mixing, meaning that both the hook and the bowl revolve around a breaker bar, resulting in a dual-kneading action. This is in line with the mixers used in professional kitchens, bakeries, and pizzerias, as the method creates longer gluten strands in the dough, which it needs to develop and proof most effectively.
The mixer features a durable aluminum body and a 7.3-quart, detachable and dishwasher-safe bowl. A digital interface lets you control the speed of the mixer with just the turn of the dial, with 58 speed settings ranging from 60 rpm to more than 1,000. If you’re multitasking during your bake, you can also set a timer on the machine so that it automatically stops. And along with the spiral dough hook and removable breaker bar, the Halo Pro comes with a geared whisk and flexible beater—so when you move on from pizza dough to cakes, cookies, and pastries, Ooni still has you covered.
“We have learned so much from our global Ooni Community of customers over the past 12 years,” Darina Garland, the cofounder and co-CEO of Ooni, said in a statement. “We know they care about making truly great dough, and we are so excited to share the Halo Pro with them. Our new mixer will really help everyone level up their dough and baking, and we can’t wait to see folks sharing their epic bakes and pizzas with their friends and family at home. That is the heart of what Ooni is all about.”
Home cooks may already be familiar with Ooni’s pizza ovens, of course. Now the brand can help you out with your baked goods, too.
