Pininfarina Shares More Images of Its Acura NSX Restomod

Pininfarina’s upcoming Honda NSX restomod has the look of something truly special.

The revered design firm has shared new images of what the vehicle it designed for JAS Motorsport will look like. The Tensei, as the project is called, is longer and wider than the original NSX, but still looks like the legendary sports car we all know and love.

It’s easy to see why JAS Motorsport wants to bring the first-generation NSX back. The mid-engine two-seater, which was sold as an Acura model in North America, is one of the best-looking cars of the 1990s. Its all-aluminum body somehow manages to look sleek, sharp-edged, and as fresh today as it did at the time of its debut. It may not have turned out to be the Ferrari rival that Honda originally envisioned, but V-6 won its fair share of influential fans, like Gordon Murray and the late Ayrton Senna.

The latest renderings of the Tensei were first shown at Milan Design Week and offer a much better look at the car than the shadow-shrouded mock-ups released in December. The new images make clear that Pininfarina’s approach to the project is one of refinement rather than reimagination. The restomod looks like the original NSX, but a few key modifications give it even more bite. Those changes include an extended wheelbase, a wider track, and a shorter rear overhang. The vehicle’s sharp edges have also been softened just a tad and its ride height lowered, which combine to give the car an even more athletic air.

We’re still waiting for full technical details, but Pininfarina confirmed in a press release that the Tensei will powered by a naturally aspirated V-6 “inspired” by the NSX’s VTEC six-cylinder. That mill made 290 hp and 224 ft lbs of torque by the time the first-generation car went out of production. JAS Motorsport, which has been working with Honda since the late ‘90s, also plans to only sell the car with a six-speed manual, which we’re sure will appeal to the NSX’s most diehard fans.

No price or release date has been announced for the Tensei, either. But, whenever it does go on sale, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the restomod costs in the high six figures, especially since first-generation NSXs can command up to $1 million at auction these days.
