‘Ready or Not 2’ in the Works With Samara Weaving, Radio Silence
Samara Weaving and Radio Silence are walking down the aisle one more time.
The actress and filmmaking collective comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella are reuniting to make Ready or Not 2, a sequel to their 2019 dark comedy horror hit, for Searchlight Pictures.
Written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, the movie told of a bride, played by Weaving, who learns of her new family’s wedding night ritual: Pulling a card from a puzzle card game. While playing if someone draws the Hide and Seek card, as she does, then a murderous game is played, all in order to appease an ancient family deal with the devil.
Among the cast were Adam Brody, Henry Czerny and Andie MacDowell.
Ready or Not, made for only $6 million, grossed over $28 million domestically and was the widest release for Searchlight at the time. It garnered strong critical reviews that praised its ability to deliver suspense and kills while also making social commentary. Its reputation and profitability continue to grow in the home entertainment market.
Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak and James Vanderbilt are returning as producers. Villella and Tara Farney will executive produce.
No take or plot details were given but Busick and Murphy are returning to write, as well.
Word of the sequel arrives the same evening as Searchlight threw a screening of the movie at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Weaving and Radio Silence were expected to be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A
Vp of production Richard Ruiz and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will be overseeing the project for Searchlight, reporting to co-heads of production and development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
Ready or Not also propelled the careers of Weaving and the filmmakers to new heights professionally. Radio Silence jumped into the studio horror engine, revitalizing the Scream franchise with 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI. They also took on vampire ballerinas with Abigail, released by Universal earlier this year.
Weaving has appeared in recent movies such as Bill & Ted Face the Music, Searchlight Pictures’ Chevalier and Damien Chazelle’s ode to early Hollywood Babylon.
Weaving is repped by CAA and 111 Media. Radio Silence is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
