Robert Downey Jr. Simply Launched a New Espresso Firm

Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist—and barista? Robert Downey Jr. took to his socials recently to announce the launch of his new coffee company, Happy.

If there’s one thing that Robert Downey Jr. has made clear these past couple of years, it’s that he’s not just interested in acting. Sure, the 58-year-old actor may have just nabbed an Oscar nom for Supporting Actor and won in the same category at the Golden Globes, but he’s not just keeping busy on film sets. Aside from running his sustainable venture company, going on a quest to make his cars electric, and co-writing a cookbook, he has a new project: Happy, his very own coffee company.

Meet Robert Downey Jr’s new coffee company, Happy

Downey co-founded Happy with Craig Dubitsky, an entrepreneur who’s no stranger to founding companies that produce sustainable goods. True to Downey’s eco-friendly mission, Happy is sustainable. “We make sure to carefully select green coffee from responsible growers that is free from flavor flaws,” states their website. Aside from the coffee itself, the packaging and their pods are also sustainable, going so far as to ensure that the paper is made of responsibly sourced wood fibre and that the ink is soy-based ink.

Downey told THR, “Coffee is a perfect substance. It is magical, consistent and legal.” He, of course, is alluding to his past substance abuse. Downey is now more than a decade sober.  He continues, “It was my mom’s beverage of choice, and I followed in her footsteps. I associate coffee with family, fellowship, ‘going the extra mile and une raison d’être.”

Apart from being sustainable, the company has also partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness to raise awareness for mental health conditions.

Happy currently has light, medium, and dark roasts that come in instant, pod, ground, or whole bean form with prices starting from USD 9.99 (78.14 HKD). Unfortunately, they only ship in the United States—for now.
