‘Scream VII’ Lands February 2026 Release Date
Fans of the Scream franchise have no reason to be scared — the seventh installment is officially on Paramount’s release calendar.
Returning franchise star Neve Cambpell and director Kevin Williamson announced Tuesday on social media that Scream VII will hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.
Campbell all but rescued the revived franchise from extinction earlier this year when announcing she would return to the world of Scream after sitting out Scream VI over a salary dispute with producer Spyglass.
When announcing the news, Campbell revealed that in addition to her return, franchise godfather Williamson would direct. Williamson is the creator of the franchise, penning the script to Wes Craven’s 1996 original, as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4. Guy Busick, who wrote 2022’s Scream and Scream VI, will take over writing duties from James Vanderbilt, who is busy directing the feature Nuremberg.
Scream VII underwent a creative overhaul following last year’s high-profile firing of star Melissa Barrera over social media posts she made amid the Israel-Hamas War, as well as the exit of Jenna Ortega, who quietly exited several months earlier. In the wake of these changes, original director Christopher Landon also departed the project.
The return of Campbell was a much-needed life-line for the franchise, as her character Sidney Prescott has been the series’ heartbeat since the first installment.
Filmmaking trio Radio Silence revitalized the franchise with 2022’s Scream, which featured Campbell. Fourteen months later, they released Scream VI, which broke the series’ record for biggest opening weekend with a $44.5 million opening on its way to grossing $166.3 million globally.
More to come.
